Saturday 4:56 PM

Well, that was not Bean either. But I think that the word is spreading to the right people, people who know about the many (illegal) ways there are to get a pit bull.

I just had a wonderful pep talk in my living room from 4 wonderful women. They are involved with the organization that let us adopt Bean, and they are angels. I even laughed, which I didn't think would happen today. One of them had her dog with her, and he wondered around looking for treats. It was nice to have a dog in the house again!

Bryan's phone continues to ring. Some calls are helpful, and some are not ("I don't have your dog, but I have dogs just like her that I will sell to you for less than $1000...")

Bryan is home and I hope I can convince him to sit down and eat something. (He has had a bagel and a bag of chips today, both while on the move.)

I'll post as soon as there is any news worth posting.

Ok, this is going to be what gets her back to you! You've hit the community you need to hit with those scummy thieves!! Glad to see the police are interested.

I agree, the reward should be increased. If someone does have Bean and is aware of the $1000 award - it might not be enough for them or enough for them to take the risk of getting caught.

If it was one of my dogs I would go to $5000. This amount is bound to attract more attention.

I will contribute!

With all you are doing you just have to get her back!!!!! We don't even want to think about bad evil people who would steal dogs... She will be fine. She has to be fine! We keep purring!!!!

I didn't see that comment before - you should offer not only the award but anonymity so that if someone stole her/has her they wouldn't fear getting prosecuted. They will be prosecuted in hell anyways!

Have any fliers been posted at the Triangle D (the barn-like c-store on Trinity where Washington splits)? Some of the clientele there--well, I'm just saying.

I'm praying for you guys. I'm confident Bean will get home soon.

Just my 2 cents - I think you all are doing a great job. I doubt there has ever been a greater effort to get back a dog in the history of this town.

Also, I think a $1k reward is a LOT of money to a lot of people, particularly the type of person who would stoop to stealing a dog. A grand for returning a dog they have "found" is some dang easy money.

In putting out flyers today, we talked to a guy on a construction crew. He said "man, a grand is a lot of money. I know if I saw this dog I would turn somebody in or try to get the dog. For a grand, my own momma would probably turn me in!"

The word is getting out far and wide in town. I think it will work. Best of luck.

While we were sorry to miss todays search party, we were heartened driving through a rougher part of town seeing Beans face everywhere! The addition of "She Cannot Have Puppies" to the flyer is brilliant!!

I would agree that the reward is very enticing and does not need to be increased. There may come a time when you could say something like "at least a $1,000 reward" or "more than $1,000 in reward," but not yet.

A sweet, love of a dog that cannot have puppies is of no use to anyone that would be motivated by a $1,000 reward.

Don't give up.

I can't imagine how difficult this is. So many of us treat our dogs like they are our children. I take my dog on a walk every night from OND near the D Food Mart down to Main st, then to Bright Leaf, past the Carolina Theatre and back up Foster St. We see strays a lot, but nothing in a few weeks. The past few days since we've found out about Bean, we've made a habit of hunting for her every night. I know there are many others out there that are doing the same. Keep hoping!

Having grown up in Durham, I've been trying to think if there are any other places that haven't been covered. I know that there is a rather large homeless population in that area of I-85. It may be worth posting some fliers in local soup kitchens, The Durham Rescue Mission... Try talking it up with the staff so they will share it with the many different faces that visit their establishments. That would be many more sets of eyes and a lot of motivation for some people who could really use the money.
I know that you're getting to that point where its feeling like you may never see her again, but I know its still possible to find her. I have worked part-time at a veterinary clinic for many years now and we hear encouraging stories ever day of long lost loves being reunited. Please don't ever give up! I am confident that you will find her sooner than later and that she is going to be fine.
My husband and I couldn't make it out yesterday, but would love to help search for Bean. Please post any future plans for search parties.
God blessyou, your family, and your beautiful baby bean.

Another story to give you hope! I read it this morning on the wral.com news website, and wanted to pass it along...

Kitten Found After 25 Days in NYC Subway

NEW YORK — A skittish kitten that scampered out of its carrier on a subway platform has been found after 25 days in the underground tunnels.

Transit workers tracked down 6-month old Georgia under midtown Manhattan Saturday. Police reunited her with owner Ashley Phillips, a 24-year-old Bronx librarian.

After hearing that the black cat might have been spotted below Lexington Avenue and East 55th Street, track workers Mark Dalessio and Efrain LaPorte went through the area making "meow" sounds.

Georgia responded, and they found her cowering in a drain between two tracks.

Georgia had lost some weight and scratched her nose but was otherwise unhurt. She had disappeared while Phillips was bringing her home from a veterinarian visit last month.

If Bean was seen running with her lead still attached, definitely search into the woods as thoroughly as you can. She could be stuck out there with the lead caught up on something. Hope this helps. -Claudia D.
