Remember that class I am supposed to be in right now? Well I sat down to "rest" around noon before going and cried myself into a restless sleep. Just now waking up.
Bean is still not at the shelter as of this morning. However, they are open until 6pm today, so we will check again before they close. The difficult thing is that the same instinct to run away from strangers that seems to have allowed her to escape her kidnapper and evade capture by dog fighters will probably also make it hard for anyone GOOD to catch her. My best advice if you see her is this:
1) Squat down and call her. This will at least get her to stand still. She knows humans can't run very fast while squatting. She may eye you suspiciously, because usually when Bryan or I do this it is because we want to give her medicine or brush her teeth or something else unpleasant.
2) Once she sees you, try jogging in the OPPOSITE direction, looking back and calling her. This is how we play "Chase". She will try her best to "beat" you to....no where. I don't think she ever realizes that we are not running towards anything. That doesn't matter, all that matters to her is that she is winning.
No new news. No sightings. I keep hoping it is just because of the rain. The Good news is that it will be bright and sunny tomorrow. That means Bean is more likely to be out, as are folks who might see her.
No word back from the city re: the flyers (is it fliers?).
I'm just holding on to the "no news is good news" philosophy.

Sending you good thoughts, from one dog lover to another. I know how hard it is to not know where your baby is, but you'll find your Bean.
R, I drove around Northgate park today at lunch and called Bean's name. It was super rainy, so I bet she didn't want to come out from any shelter if she was around there. I just wanted you to know that I am looking too, and praying for Bean and you and Bryan. The tips you just posted are helpful. I was just wondering what to do if I did see her. Anyway, I am on your team. Let me know if there is something specific you want done. I will keep following the directions on the blog and looking. Love, Yashna

Petey and I explored part of the trail today, and drove around Northgate Park and Duke Park as well. No sightings, but not surprising, given the rain. I bet she's hunkered down somewhere just keeping dry!! Tomorrow will bring good news, I'm sure. If you all go out to search tonight, I'll be happy to help!!

I was just thinking that since the city doesn't allow signs on polls, how about a mailing. We could do a bulk mailing to a specific zip code(s). Kind of like the "Have you seen this child" cards.
The other idea is advertising on the bus. I know that it might sound crazy but who could miss the sight of Bean wrapped around a DATA bus.
Just some thoughts. I'd gladly donate to the cause and get pricing.

That sounds like an AWESOME idea. If you or anyone else out there knows anything about bulk mailing and/or bus advertising, please let us know! I want it to be impossible to live in Durham and not know about Bean!

Garbage night--just a thought. Tomorrow is 7 am garbage and recycling pickup in Trinity Heights, and no doubt in adjoining neighborhoods. So we all put out our trash this evening. It might be worthwhile to look for turned over containers (or maybe more likely, recycling bins)as evidence that Bean might have been around. If I were a hungry dog, that's where I'd look. My dog will chew even a clean paperboard container so long as there is a hint of food smell. I just walked Sedgefield-Green-Onslow-Markham with my dog, and will drive around in a bit wider area. I don't want to take away from the search for Bean, I really hope you find her... but I would like to add that people should be careful when approaching this dog. This dog has bitten at least one person that I know of...
