Now that the search is over....

The city has very nicely asked us to take down the Bean fliers that were put up all over town. Since so many people put them up in so many places, it would be really great if everyone could take down the fliers they put up. If you are unable to do that (because you put up fliers in an area other than where you live) please let me know where you posted them, and I will get someone else to take them down.

Also, if you happen upon a flier in your daily travels, please take a moment to rip it down. It will be such a happy task compared to putting the posters up! We don't need them anymore because we have our Bean back!

The city has been unbelievably understanding about these fliers, and I really don't want them to have a reason to regret it. So if we could try to get those fliers down as soon as possible that would be awesome!

No photos. Sorry. Just business, since I am sending this from school. I am pretty sure we can all guess what Bean is doing right now anyway!

Will get to work on getting those fliers down after work! This is a HAPPY task!

Yes, I can imagine that Bean is sleeping peacefully although she probably has one eye open and waiting for her Mom and Dad to walk through the door and lavish her with attention and lots of lovin'!

I've been scrolling through your blog lately. Seems your pretty good at the whole internet panhandling thing. If you can't afford to own a dog, maybe you should get a gerbil or something.

Pardon my french, but F*** You Anonymous. If you weren't such a D*ck, maybe people would be willing to help you when you were dealing with a crisis.

No one here gave because Bryan and Rebecca begged. They asked and we gave because we love them and we love Bean.

How rude! People were not conned or pushed into doing anything for these people and I know for a fact if I were to pick up the phone and ask them for help, I would get an immediate yes. I feel equally this way about the majority of citizens in Durham. We help because we are caring, responsible citizens without an agenda.

Bean, please take a family picture and share with us once you get back to your normal self. If you don't, I am still gonna love you any old way....Good night sweet Bean.

I certainly hope the police were notified with the identity of the guy who returned Bean. Because that sounds really shady. I would certainly want to investigate him; especially considering how his initial concern was making sure you were going to give him the reward money; instead of being motivated by returning someone's pet to them.

And I happen to agree with anonymous. Many of us have had to deal with financial crises as a result of medical concerns with our pets. There's a big difference between borrowing from family and friends and putting a paypal link on a blog and suggesting that Oprah take up your cause. Looking back and seeing that you have done this before raises questions.

I'm glad that your dog is back because I fully understand how pets are a part of your family. I hope that you look into some pet medical insurance to help out with future medical costs and I hope that you don't leave your dog alone in an unlocked car anymore.

Bean, Rebecca and Bryan,

Please don't let some people's comments posted here get to you. Please. They don't know you or your personal situation. People gave from their hearts and not because they were coerced in any way. Fellow dog-lovers and friends came together for Bean and her parents. I see nothing wrong at all - sometimes it does take a village, as they say! I'm sure Bean is mighty glad you rescued her and has such a loving family that would go to the lengths you did to find her and if other dog-lovers could assist in any way, the more the merrier! And I daresay that anyone who showed up to look for Bean would have taken the reward money, but reward money had to be paid to return Bean to her family, then so be it! Some people are motivated by love and others by money!

I know I look forward to reading a lot more about Bean's activities and adventures!

There was tremendous relief with the news of Bean's return home.

I do hope this case gets folks thinking about the risks involved with leaving animals unattended.

I've never met you or Bean, but was prepared to donate money to help pay the reward knowing that karma always finds a way to help when you need it back. Please don't feel bad about what people are saying. I'm so happy that Bean got a second chance at life b/c of you and Bryan. Taking a chance on a pit is something to be proud of, as people always hear the horrible media stories, and don't learn what wonderful family members and pets they can be.

Is Bean awake yet?

A locked door is not going to keep someone from taking something on the inside. Sure it may slow the process down a tiny bit but now days there are all kinds of tools that will open a door in an instant....slide it down, pop the lock..."gone in 60 seconds." By the way, I have a pit and I hope he will never be missing but if so, I feel my friends and others will do the same things Becky and Bryan did to get Bean home.

I'm so glad you found your dog! She's a cutie pie. With a cute name.

Jeez, who are these rude idiots! I guess this is what happens when you make the papers. You know these comments are standard in the dog blogging world. Here's a big Pimm growl at everyone who says something to upset you. Maybe you should just lock comments until this all blows over.

I am truly grateful that Bean is home and safe. I know how Bryan and Rebecca felt when Bean was gone. My family lost our Chihuahua (Rascal)several years ago and it was devistating. I think that's why I won't allow myself to become attached to animals now. Bryan and Rebecca, I am very happy that your baby is back home. Give Bean a big hug and kiss from the extended family!! Please post more pictures. I enjoy viewing them.

I am so glad you got Bean back and it was wonderful to see the community out-pouring to help find her. I looked back at your blog and do think it is legitmate to point out that you have asked for (via the internet) and recieved $2,400 -leg operation and reward money- in the last 10 months.

For cripe's sake, seriously, about the donations, so what? They were in a jam for her surgery and the reward money like a lot of us would be with a big sudden expense. The blog and the photos entertain people. It was purely voluntary and, to my thinking, an interesting exercise in community and the Internet. Think of all the times you buy Girl Scout cookies or band candy from someone in the office not because you really want to, but because it seems politic to do so. There was no arm twisting here - just a button to click and some good karma to enjoy. BFD.

I was extremely happy and relieved to hear the news of Beans return home!! I closely followed the updates and wanted to do whatever I could to help. I came out on Saturday and happily contribution when the appeal for monetary donations came out.

Although I am sure you all are getting some badly needed rest and catching up after what must have been a nightmarish week - I have been disappointed by the minimum amount of information and photos of Bean since his return home. I wanted to hear more about how he is doing and read the follow up articles and see the photos that you described.
